ARTIST CONTRACT
  • Winning artists allow Ariel AVANT and participating presenters to publish their contest submission materials on their respective websites, along with other marketing materials (photos, bios, press quotes, etc).
  • Winning artists allow Ariel AVANT and participating presenters to use these same materials in other marketing endeavors, including online marketing, print materials, and more.
  • Grand Prize Winners commit to being available during the touring timeframe of September 2021 through June 2022.  Some performance engagements may occur outside of those dates, and any such event dates will be mutually agreed upon between Ariel AVANT and the Grand Prize Winner as they occur.  Ariel AVANT will make exact concert dates available by December 31, 2020 at the latest. All competition touring engagements shall be run through Ariel Artists.
    Grand Prize Winners understand that travel costs are their responsibility, as are the logistics of booking travel.  Participating presenters will each provide a minimum of two nights of accommodations.
  • COVID-19 CONTINGENCY PLAN: Although we hope that a COVID-19 vaccine will be developed as soon as possible, and hopefully by fall 2021 at the latest, we will endeavor to schedule as many as possible of the Grand Prize Winner’s performance and engagement events toward the latter half of 21/22. If a scheduled performance/engagement event pairing must be postponed due to COVID-19, the presenters are committed to rescheduling any affected dates to the 22/23 season.
  • For artists not currently under management, should any Ariel AVANT judge decide to present competition project proposals and/or paired engagement events of artists other than or in addition to the Grand Prize Winner, regardless of the season in which the events are scheduled to occur, the artist agrees that those events be exclusively run through Ariel Artists, including negotiation of terms, and be subject to  a commission of 20% of the gross fee. Ariel Artists, in its sole discretion, may release the artist of the commitment to run Ariel AVANT project proposals and/or paired engagement events through Ariel Artists.
  • For all Ariel AVANT winners (Grand Prize, Second and Third Place, and Heart Winners) not currently under management, should performance inquiries be made regarding artist’s Ariel AVANT  project proposals and/or paired engagement events, regardless of the season in which the performance is scheduled, the artist agrees that those concerts be exclusively run through Ariel Artists, including negotiation of terms, and be subject to a commission of 20% of the gross fee.  Ariel Artists, in its sole discretion, may release the artist of the commitment to run Ariel AVANT project proposals and/or paired engagement events through Ariel Artists.
  • Artists provide permission for Ariel AVANT and participating presenters to record performances (audio and video), both for archival and promotional (but not commercial) use.  Any audio or video media from the live performance will be subject to the artists’ approval before public use. Artist reserves the right to withdraw consent for materials it deems unrepresentative, and such material must be removed – either in whole or in part – from all publications. 
  • Artist consents to photography during performances, as long as it does not disturb the performing or listening experience.
  • Artists shall honor and meet all deadlines, including delivery deadline of the commissioned work(s).
  • Under no circumstances will a change of personnel between the application process and the end of the performance tour be permitted.
  • Artists agree that Artists shall not be excused from performances except in the case of illness or injury that, in the opinion of Artist’s medical doctor, prevents Artists’ performance.  In the case of any such illness or injury, Artist will provide Ariel Artists with notice thereof as early as possible, and shall provide Ariel Artists with details reasonably requested by Ariel.
  • Artists shall maintain prompt communication with Ariel AVANT and Ariel Artists.
  • Artists are responsible for obtaining any consent or approval required under any management agreement, recording agreement, or other agreement to which the Artist is a party.
  • Artist understands that it is Artist’s responsibility to declare income for tax purposes.  Artist will provide Ariel Artists with a completed W-9. International artists commit to securing a CWA prior to any U.S. tour.
  • Artists give permission to Ariel AVANT and Ariel Artists to enter into and execute Performance Contracts on Artists’ behalf, and Artist agrees to honor any such Performance Contracts.
  • By agreeing to participate in the Ariel AVANT innovation competitions, Artists become ambassadors of Ariel AVANT and must conduct themselves in an exemplary manner.  Ariel AVANT and Ariel Artists reserve the right to cancel the participation of any Artists and/or their members that display inappropriate behavior or substandard performance preparation during the Incubation Residency or at any point in the performance tour.

Application Process

  • June 1, 2020 – Applications Due by 11:59pm PT.
  • July 2020 – Semi-Finalists Announced
  • August 2020 – Finalists Announced
  • September 2020 – Grand Prize Winner Announced
  • September 2020 through April 2021 – Two-Week Incubation Residency (exact dates TBD with Grand Prize Winner and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music)
  • September 2021 through June 2022 – Approximate Performance Period for Grand Prize Winner

Prize Disbursement

  • Half of Development/Commissioning Fund ($5k) awarded upon Grand Prize Winner announcement (September 2020).
  • Honorariums for Second and Third Prize ($3k and $2k, respectively) awarded upon Second and Third Prize Winner announcement (September 2020).
  • Second half of Development/Commission Fund ($5k) awarded upon completion of first performance engagement (September 2021 through June 2022).
  • $20,000 Touring Fund awarded in $4,000 installments upon completion of each of the five performances (September 2021 through June 2022).
